Save McKenzie Lowe's Life

From their Facebook page:  We are the family of McKenzie — a vibrant, giving, and sweet 12-year-old girl who was diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), an inoperable brain tumor, on November 28, 2012. The median overall survival of children diagnosed with DIPG is approximately 9 months, making it one of the most devastating pediatric malignancies. But McKenzie still has hope in the form of Antineoplastons therapy – a treatment that could save her life if the FDA grants her compassionate use.

Mission
The mission of Sitara Foundation is to give back to the people of India, who are the inspiration and backbone of Sitara Collections. We do this through our financial support of the School for Educational Development (Shiksha Vikas Vidyalaya) in the northern Indian village of Chanchali, knowing that education is perhaps the most important tool in lifting communities out of the cycle of poverty.  To learn more about the SVV School, please visit http://svvindia.org
About Us
Sitara Foundation, the charitable arm of Sitara Collections, was launched in conjunction with Sitara Collections in 2007. The Foundation exists as a tangible expression of our appreciation for the highly skilled Indian artisans who meticulously craft jewelry and lifestyle products using traditional techniques. From the beginning, we committed to returning a portion of our proceeds to the people and culture sharing their gifts with the world through Sitara Collections.
Sitara Foundation currently has one main project: the financial support of the School for Educational Development (Shiksha Vikas Vidyalaya or SVV), which is located in the northern Indian village of Chanchali. It’s a school established by Vinay Singh, the Indian-born husband of Sitara founder Linda Singh, as a vehicle to supplement the education of children in this remote village. Without additional help in subjects like English and math, most or all of the local children couldn’t earn a spot at government-run institutions of secondary education—thereby sentencing them to a life of continued poverty.
A portion of the purchase price from every Sitara Collections item is funneled directly to SVV to sustain its vision of lifting rural Indian children out of poverty. And like ripples in a pond, their successes will affect not only their families and their community, but perhaps reach into unexpected corners to inspire even greater actions.

Thanks to Ibotta, I've earned $62.50 since Nov'13! Have you tried it yet?

Ibotta is another one of my new favorite rebate friends. Since joining Nov'13, I've earned $62.50. It only takes a minute on your smart phone to earn. Even better, I've stacked my Ibotta rebate on top of store sales and coupons (and Plink) with no problems! You can select cash back via PayPal or receive gift cards to may stores.

You are not limited to only earning rebates at the grocery store. Ibotta is adding stores and categories all the time. Earn cash back from dining out, going to the movies or buying pet food.  JOIN HERE

It is simple:  Before starting your shopping, open the Ibotta app on your smart phone to take a look at the offers currently available. Select your store and item and perform 1 to 3 simple tasks to unlock the reward(s). Tasks have included watching a short video, answering a quick survey or making a post to Facebook, and are worth $0.25 to $1.00 each. You control the amount of your rebate by performing only those tasks you choose.

Rebates are based upon item UPC codes. Ibotta even has a quick check feature to let you easily verify that your purchase qualifies for the rebate. When your shopping is complete, you select the store and item and select redeem. You will have to scan in the item UPC code and take a picture of your receipt. The information is then submitted and your rebate appears over the next 24 hours.

Here is another great feature - there is NO MINIMUM to transfer earned rebates to PayPal - you could even transfer $1.00! (NOTE: Minimums do apply to gift cards.)

And Ibotta is constantly trying to make the process easier for you. They are currently expanding their network so you can link your store discount cards to your Ibotta account, allowing unlocked rebates to be automatically tracked and submitted for redemption.

Finally, this is another great cash opportunity you can stack on top of other rewards. I've successfully combined Plink and Ibotta rewards for restaurants.  JOIN HERE

How Plink has been helping me earn extra money (updated 3/10)

Have you joined Plink yet? You don't have to do anything - no receipts to submit, not photos to take - just shop and points are automatically awarded.  Join Here
Some of the great store options available

The program makes it wicked easy to link your debit or credit card and it is even simpler to put stores in your "wallet" for earning. They've even got an app for iPhones and Android! It is so easy to check what stores are slotted in my wallet. Right now I've got Dunkin' Donuts, Burger King, Staples, Panda Express and Red Robin in my slots. There are plenty of other options, too, including Dollar General, United Artists Theatres, Vitamin World, Foot Locker, FTD and more.

I've been using it since mid-October and have already earned 1580 points.
Some of my points earned
It only takes 500 points to redeem a $5 giftcard. I'm saving mine to use for special occasions. You can get gift cards for Amazon, Walmart, Kohl's, iTunes, Regal Cinemas, Facebook, and a handful more - or donate them to the American Red Cross!

Small selection of rewards I can get with Plink

In addition, they run a monthly giveaway. This month there is an Xbox One up for grabs.

So, if you are like me and pay for almost everything with a debit/credit card, take a minute and check out Plink. If you use my link not only will I get 100 bonus points, you will start with 300 points - more than halfway to $5!  Join Here

And for those of you wondering about security, this is from their FAQ:

Why is Plink safe? How is my information stored?

Your bank information is stored in the safest way possible. Plink never receives or stores your log-in information. Intuit is the third party we use to store your log-in information and match transaction so we can give you rewards. Intuit also built Turbo Tax, Mint.com and Quickbooks and are responsible for storing millions of federal tax returns that include not only sensitive income information, but also bank routing numbers and social security numbers. They have the highest level of security available and are 100% PCI Compliant.

In memory of...

As some of you may know, my pic is actually of my Lucky dog. Hubby and I rescued him from a Florida shelter after Hurricane Charlie? (before Hurricane Katrina).

[On a side note, let me tell you, that nothing makes hurricanes blur together so much as living in a trailer park in Florida. Especially during Charlie and Katrina and the others. And still nothing has surprised me as much as seeing the huge fish swimming down the side of our street in the storm water surge. And if you don't learn quick and efficient bug out techniques from living in the storm paths through that year, you'll never learn to be prepared.]

Bub was actually our second shelter baby. We had rescued Diamond from a Maryland shelter a couple years prior and weren't really looking for another dog as she was a handful by herself. [Diamond was a Chow/Samoyed mix. She had the look of a smaller Samoyed (still 50ish lbs) but had the black Chow tongue.] [[And we had parrots. How could I forget?!]]  Lucky came from a very large family and loved pretty much everyone he ever met and always tried to kiss babies. We assume he came from someone of Spanish or Mexican descent, mainly because of how he acted when he heard someone speak Spanish and nothing drew him to the kitchen faster than the smell of TexMex food and rice.

Lucky and Daisy

Lucky aka Bubba
About 9 months ago, Bub fell as he was coming down the stairs. I was at work and Hubby frantically called me. Lucky wouldn't get up off the floor and could barely move his legs.  He ended up laying on the floor for a couple of hours and we were finally able to get him in the car and to the vets. He had severe arthritis in his hips, causing him pain and making him very unsteady especially on stairs. The doc said we would have to consider using Rimadyl or a similar item to lubricate his joints and cartilage and ease his pain. We started Bub on glucosamine/MSM supplements and doggie pain pills and he was doing much better - at least until this new year.

Along with most everyone else in US (and around the globe), we've been enjoying some horrible weather. Lots of pressure shifts, lots of large temperature shifts not only from day to day, but also during the same day. I wouldn't go so far as saying that Hubby and I were "rode hard and put up wet," but we've had some adventures during our lives and have a few marks to show for them. We certainly feel the snaps and changes and it makes us grumpy even on great days.  Bub was suffering as much, if not more, along with us. We changed and increased his meds, but he became snappy and belligerent; something we'd never seen before. He was still having mostly good days, and we discussed increasing his meds again.

Lucky's pain was worsening. Most evenings he would watch us walk upstairs to the bedroom. When we got to the top of the stairs, he would ever so carefully lower himself down, and end up falling asleep at the foot of the stairs while his head rested one step above.  On bad nights he would just remain on his bed downstairs and cry.

Lucky started refusing to take his pills, making each dosage a challenge. He became more aggressive, not allowing anyone near any of the food bowls and even started snapping at us. He wouldn't go down the stairs into the yard. Even when walking on a leash he wouldn't go much past our house. We were unable to pet more than his head without him crying or snapping. His last full day with us he spent on his pillow, whining, panting, in too much pain to move, eat or drink.

We decided we were being selfish and cruel, and I made the call to our vet. Hubby and I spent the night with Lucky, sitting by his side and comforting him as much as he would allow. And on February 19th, Lucky went chasing off after Diamond. Now they play together as they wait for us to join them on the other side.
